Nura ("Nura," the "App") is operated by Thorin Ventures, LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. By downloading or using Nura, you agree to the practices described here.
If you do not agree with this Policy, please do not use the App.
1. Who This Policy Covers
Nura is intended for users aged 13 and older. The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. See "Children's Privacy" below.
2. Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Account information: your email address and display name, and authentication details handled by our sign-in providers (Apple, Google, or email/password).
- Profile information: an optional profile photo, your chosen pet/mascot name, and a general age range you select during onboarding.
- Recitation audio: when you use recitation features, your microphone audio is captured so the App can follow along and evaluate your recitation.
- Content you create: messages you send to the in-app AI tutor, and your notes, highlights, likes, and saved ayahs.
- Preferences: prayer calculation method, reminder times, language, learning goals, and similar settings.
- Communications: information you provide when you contact us for support.
Information collected automatically
- Identifiers: a user ID and device identifiers used to operate your account and sync your data.
- Approximate location: coarse location used to calculate prayer times and Qibla direction (only with your permission).
- Usage and analytics data: in-app events, feature usage, and progress used to operate gamification and improve the App.
- Diagnostics: crash logs and performance data (collected only if you allow diagnostics).
- Push tokens: device push-notification tokens used to deliver reminders and updates.
Information from third parties
- Sign-in providers (Apple, Google): your email, name, and basic profile, per the permissions you grant.
- Purchases: subscription and purchase status from Apple and our subscription manager (RevenueCat). We never receive your full payment-card details.
We do not use App tracking or collect data to track you across other companies' apps and websites. We do not sell your personal information.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Provide, maintain, and personalize the App and your learning experience.
- Power the AI tutor, recitation evaluation, prayer times, Qibla, and notifications.
- Operate gamification features such as streaks, coins, leagues, and leaderboards.
- Process subscriptions and prevent fraud and abuse.
- Analyze usage to fix bugs, improve features, and develop new ones.
- Maintain safety, enforce our Terms, and comply with legal obligations.
4. Voice and Recitation Audio
When you use recitation features, audio from your microphone is processed to recognize speech and score your recitation. Audio may be sent to our speech-recognition provider for processing. We use recitation audio only to provide and improve recitation features and your feedback — never for advertising. You can disable microphone access at any time in your device settings (recitation features will not work without it).
5. AI Features
Messages you send to the in-app AI tutor, and certain learning context, are processed by third-party AI providers (such as Google and OpenAI) to generate responses, explanations, quizzes, and feedback. Please do not share sensitive personal information in chat. AI-generated content is for educational purposes and is not a religious ruling — see our Terms of Service.
6. How We Share Information
We share information only as described here:
- Service providers: vendors who process data on our behalf under contract, including Google Firebase and Google Cloud (authentication, database, hosting, messaging, AI), our speech-recognition provider, RevenueCat (subscriptions), and our diagnostics provider (Sentry).
- Other users: if you participate in social features (such as leagues and leaderboards), your display name and progress may be visible to others. If you enable anonymity, your name is hidden from other users.
- Legal and safety: when required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users, the public, or Nura.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
7. Third-Party Services
The App relies on third-party services that have their own privacy policies, including Apple (App Store, sign-in, payments), Google (Firebase, Cloud, AI, sign-in), RevenueCat (subscriptions), and Sentry (diagnostics). We encourage you to review their policies.
8. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal data as described in "Your Choices and Rights," subject to a short grace period and to limited retention required for legal, security, or backup purposes. Residual copies may persist in backups for a limited time before being overwritten.
9. Your Choices and Rights
- Access and correction: view and edit your profile in the App.
- Deletion: delete your account and associated data from within the App (Profile → Delete Account). A 30-day grace period applies, after which your data is permanently erased, your authentication is revoked, and your subscription profile is removed.
- Data export: you may request a copy of your data.
- Permissions: control microphone, location, notifications, and photo access in your device settings.
- Anonymity: hide your name from other users via the league anonymity setting.
- Diagnostics: opt in or out of crash and performance reporting.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the EU/UK GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority) or the California CCPA/CPRA (know, delete, correct, and opt out of "sale"/"sharing" — note that we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined). To exercise these rights, use the in-app tools or contact us. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
10. Children's Privacy
Nura is intended for users 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
We use technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. International Data Transfers
We are based in the United States and process and store data there and in other countries where our service providers operate. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers. By using the App, you understand your information may be transferred to countries that may have data-protection laws different from those in your country.
13. About the Nura Mascot
"Nura" the mascot is an original, fictional cartoon character created by us. The mascot is a cultural and motivational companion designed to make daily habit-building fun and engaging. The mascot is not a religious symbol, does not depict any prophet, religious figure, or sacred entity, and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or representative of Islam or any religious authority, scholar, or institution. It exists solely to support engagement and habit tracking within the App.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the App. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
